|Project Plejecenter Lyngbo - activity and sensory garden (Gunnar Christensen)
Based on an expressed need from the residents' side, were there in the spring on the initiative of Gunnar Christensen sought funding from the Ministry's social fund for development of better care for the elderly.
The project received support from the Department but because of the many applications were only awarded 16,000 kroner, however, granted Køge municipality DKK 14,000 so the project could be implemented in its entirety.
The gardens idea is to benefit and happiness. The garden is intended as a biological circuit where there is life, movement and adventure for all senses. The challenge is that many of the daily users are disabled, visual and hearing disabilities and / or suffer from dementia in varying degrees. Therefore, the garden is built up so that its elements as much as possible meet the different needs.
|The biological cycle has its basis in a plantation which is both colorful and aromatic, but also attracts insects. Insects are food for the birds that are around the 10 new hung bird boxes. In order to make the garden attractive for the birds there is purchased a beautiful granite stone with a cavity for drinking and bathing water. Insect and bird life will create anticipation and joy with the residents.
Another part of the garden is the activities created for the residents. Many have had gardens or were farmers. So they have a close relationship with land and culture. It is met in the garden by the construction of raised bed and installation of a greenhouse.
|The challenge of the raised beds has been that the residents who will be working with seeding, planting and harvesting either sits in a wheelchair or can not bend or kneel. The challenge is resolved in a good working relationship with the firm
SkovTrup at Hobro. The company have developed raised beds that are so high that they can be operated from a wheelchair or standing. So now there are in the care center's atrium set two beds and residents are working to reach agreement on a seeding plan.SkovTrup has also been able to meet another need. They have delivered four plant boxes on wheels, so the plants can be driven to where the residents sit. Company SkovTrup has been constructive and flexible in problem solving and have created garden elements that could improve quality of life for the residents in nursing homes or institutions such as the physically handicapped.

Center for Communication and Assistive Technology (CKHM) has arranged an outdoor area in order for you, as a disabled person or as a professional can come to try out, train in, consider and see different possible construction details in a confined outdoor area. The details contained in the environment we can walk in every day. The objectives of the details are taken from current guidelines for disability housing. We also have beautified the area with different vegetation that may also serve as an inspiration in terms of colors and scents, which is a major factor if you are visually impaired. We have established a raised bed of inspiration for both wheelchair users, disabled and visually impaired. Finally, there is established a small area "oasis", with benches and tables where you can settle down for a rest, a chat, or while a caregiver tests the facility.
